If Your Pledge Was Declined, Here's What to Do!
over 3 years ago – Mon, Dec 12, 2022 at 04:51:38 PM

I've had a few people who have contacted me, letting me know their pledge was declined. If you happen to be in this situation, here is the advice that Kickstarter offers. I remember from the last project that there wasn't always a single factor that caused the error; it varied from person to person.

I have no control over this as a project creator, but if the problem continues past the 7-day mark, and your pledge is dropped, you'll still have the opportunity to receive your books at the same time as everyone else using the Backerkit online store, which allows you to become a "late backer."

This store will be set up in a week or two, so don't despair if you still can't resolve the problem after taking the steps described in the link above. Thanks for your patience; I'll always be available to ensure you get your rewards! :)

THANK YOU!

Thank you! 500 is a nice round number. :)

This second setting book will add more depth to the GeneFunk 2090 world, and I am so happy to continue to develop this role-playing ecosystem.

Backerkit Pledge Manager

Once Kickstarter processes everything, which they tell me will take 2-3 weeks, the pledge manager will be activated. You’ll be able to enter your address and purchase additional add-ons!

Estimated Fulfillment Dates

GeneFunk 2090 Core Rulebook and Shadows of Korea PDFs. These will be distributed as soon as Kickstarter processes the pledges! So expect download links through DTRPG as soon as Kickstarter finishes processing this campaign!

Dark Forest PDF.  A beta release of this PDF will be available in April, with the final PDF to be completed in June 2023.

The Hardcovers. July 2023 is still the estimated time of delivery for the physical books!

Digital Tokens. These are almost done and will be sent out via DTRPG links with the PDFs, this December!

I am deeply grateful to develop resources for this world and game; thank you all again!

Revised Stretch Goals: Let's Get to 40,000!
over 3 years ago – Thu, Dec 08, 2022 at 11:14:43 AM

It's now the final 48 hours of the campaign, I want to incentivize the push to reach 40,000! As such, you'll get three stretch goals at 40,000! Two new genomes and an extra merc contract! Additionally, the printed hex map is now a 50,000 stretch goal! Let's make hay while the sun shines!! :)

  •  40,000 - NEW GENOME. A new engineered playable genome, specific to Dark Forest, will be outlined and illustrated!
  •  40,000 - EXTRA MERC CONTRACT: R.O.U.S. ~10 pages long, complete with battle maps! The city of Cusco has a pest problem; rats! They aren't simply contaminating food and destroying property, bodies of city exterminators are showing up torn to shreds. What's worse is that these vermin appear to be acting with unusual coordination, even strategy. The city suspects some leaked Dark Forest biotech is behind it all and is contracting you to deal with the problem. Time to get dirty.
  •  40,000 - NEW GENOME. A new engineered playable genome, specific to Dark Forest, will be outlined and illustrated!
  •  50,000 - PRINTED HEX MAP. The overhead map of Dark Forest will be printed, and either included in the book itself, to be unfolded, or mailed alongside the physical copy of Dark Forest! It will be at least 17x22 inches in size!

Stretch Goal Unlocked: Digital Tokens!
over 3 years ago – Wed, Dec 07, 2022 at 04:50:31 AM

Over 60 digital tokens for a virtual tabletop! These 280x280 pixel tokens include every NPC and creature in Dark Forest. They'll be in PNG format, with transparent backgrounds, and distributed through DriveThruRPG.

Busting that next Stretch Goal is still possible with a little over two days remaining! Hope to finish strong! :)

Hunter, Pishtaco, Raider, and Genjutsu
over 3 years ago – Fri, Dec 02, 2022 at 06:21:31 PM

Happy Friday! More Archetypes!

Gunfighter - Hunter. These gunfighters have mastered firearms for stalking and harvesting animals. They are wilderness experts, employing stealth and ambush tactics to subdue their targets. They are just as adept with nets, lassos, and snares, as they are with guns. Many such predators come to Dark Forest, drawn by the promise of magnificent quarries.

Hardcase - Pishtaco. These ravenous brutes have been infected with infectious endosymbionts that cause Pishtaco Disease. It kills most people, but some are just too tough to die.  The afflicted survivors gain night vision, a gaping toothy-maw, and are left with cravings for raw flesh. Uncooked meat not only nourishes them,  it allows them to take on the traits of creatures that they consume, making their ghoulish meals a path toward power.

Suit - Raider.  Raiders are explorers and thrill-seekers who chase wealth and intelligence kept hidden in abandoned research facilities, archeological sites, corporate vaults, and unforgiving wilderness. They venture into areas of danger, bypassing security and traps, and harvesting the fruits of their risk. They follow their manifest destiny to any place on the planet where shrouded knowledge and riches lay, no matter how well guarded.

Samurai - Genjutsu. Genjutsu is the bujutsu of illusion through indiscriminate short-range mind hacking. This training allows practitioners to cloud the minds of those around them, making themselves invisible.  Especially skilled Genjutsu samurai can manifest as everyone's worst fear, petrifying everyone with dread.
